Pierce College Marine Science Program DONATE

For thirty years the Marine Science Program at Pierce College has been pushing the boundaries of community college teaching providing thousands of students with rigorous hands-on learning. Our program is open to all students - those wanting to become marine biologists, as well as students who have interest in the oceans and marine biology. Our students enjoy the most extensive field study program of any community college in California.

Students work on research vessels to learn about trawling and local marine fisheries, study local marine environments including the rocky shore, wetlands, and the kelp forests of Catalina Island , unique to our program are regular semester weekend classes to study marine ecology in nearby Baja California.

Culminating the program is an extraordinary class taught during the summer to Bahia de los Angeles in the Gulf of California.  This rigorous field study class, with lots of in-water study, gives students a real world view as they see, and come to understand, this complex marine ecosystem and the challenges and solutions to fisheries and other marine issues.

The funding problem for the community colleges has created a crises for our program - we need your help.

Please support our program. All contributions are 100% tax deductible.
